Shutter Speed

To make a very literal Analogy the camera's shutter is the valve that controls how long the light is allowed to flow through the lens onto the camera sensor. The smaller the aperture( the larger the f number) the longer the shutter will need to be open to compensate to create the right exposure. Shutter speeds are measured in everything from fractions of seconds to several seconds.
The function of the shutter is similar to the camera's aperture in the sense that each change in shutter speed will either half or double the exposure. Shutter speed also controls motion, usually a shutter speed below 1?40 of a second will produce a motion blur.
Shutter speed along with aperture settings and ISO are the controls that determine overall exposure
Creative ideas that we will try using shutter speed will be panning, painting with light as well as freezing motion and using motion blur.
